Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

I have been browsing for a alarm systems for one month now and I finally stumbled into a home alarm device that seems to fit my home, my family and our livelihood.

We researched a bunch of different security companies to check the least expensive option as opposed to the costliest choice. I must say, that I was bummed out with most of the sites we looked at but one stood out above the rest and that was FamilyHomeSecurity.com. Their monitoring information was fantastic, eye opening and clearing up. I wish they were a company that put in protection systems themselves because I know it would be done very well and with lots of attention to cleanliness.

What made it a main experience? Well, we got a breaking and enterings three days ago that wasn’t very fun. Fortuitously, we were out of town and they merely carried jewelry and coins. Now there are small fry in the household and a lot more noteworthy stuff like computers, electronics, and above all – family and family memories and pic. We simply desired to find the easiest alarm system that we could all use and feel safe with. It was by all odds time to find one this day.

So, how did I acquire the good alarm system? We started out by seeking ’security system’ on the search engines, then ranged nonstop thorough of the sites on the first page. A mass of them were trash…and I was sad about that. Everybody I know says Yahoo is the easiest…in any case, afterwards looking through those internet sites we couldn’t acquire what we were anticipating for. We didn’t wish a trying sales process and we didn’t want to suppose lots about it. Almost all of these websites were pesky sales pitches – I wanted info!

Some of the companies we regarded were Brinks, ADT, GE and Pinnacle. Some of them look to habituate interchangeable alarm systems…and we lastly wound up with a Pinnacle Security system after learning from the dependable data received at homesecurityguru and www.familyhomesecurity.com.

It’s solid to see some clarifying websites out there on the matter of home security.

Enjoy the search for a great alarm system!

The Family Chooses a Home Theater System

Monday, March 9th, 2009

After studying all the information I gathered and talking it over with the family, we decided an all-in-one home theater system was the best choice for us. We wanted a system that was moderately priced and easy to set up. We didn’t want to take the time to choose multi-components and match them with each other. The speakers of an HTIB are pre-matched and being technologically challenged, I opted for the easier system to hook up. My wife liked the looks of the HTIB system as opposed to the component systems which all look like black boxes. I liked the convenience of only one remote for the entire system. The biggest selling point was this system is better suited for watching movies and that will be our primary use.

Tonight’s the night the whole family has been waiting for. Our first family night at home with our new home theater system. The kids finished their home work early, I brought home the DVD, and Mom ordered the pizza. Just as we were sitting down to enjoy our dinner and movie, the doorbell rang. It was our son’s best friend who just happened to drop by to see if he wanted to shoot some hoops. Of course we invited him to join us and he did. I hit the play button and the doorbell rang again. This time is was our daughter’s best friend who stopped by to borrow her history notes. We asked her if she wanted a piece of pizza and she accepted. Before I could start the movie there was a knock at the backdoor. It was our next door neighbors. Our “family night” turned into “friends and family night”. Fortunately my wife ordered two large pizzas!

Brief History of Mission Style Furniture

Friday, January 9th, 2009

The descriptive term “mission furniture” was first contrived to characterize straight line rustic style furniture that was being produced around 1895. The mission style furniture design originated from a simple rush-seated chair. The design of the chair was influenced by the Spanish missions of the region, hence the phrase “mission furniture”. Mission furniture caught on as a general term for the style of furniture. The term “arts & crafts” was used mainly used in Europe to describe this style. Many of the pieces had transitional designs but by 1900 the designs became more straight-lined and matured into the conventional mission style, as we know it.

Mission style furniture really took hold around the beginning of the 20th century. During this time period many residences were furnished with either mission or Victorian furniture, sometimes even both. Many manufacturers started a line of mission furniture or even became completely dedicated to this style, such as the Craftsman Workshops of Gustav Stickley. Some feel that there is a need for division between mission style furniture and arts and crafts furniture. The belief is that mission style furniture represents a lower grade more basic style of furniture, while the term arts and crafts is held for higher caliber more refined designs. A decade into the 20th century droves of manufacturers were producing mission furniture. Much of it was poorly design and not well built.

Installing Your Solar Panels, Part Two

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Now before you bring out the ladder to climb on the roof to install your solar panel, make sure your roof is in tip top shape and that all the roofing tiles are well fixed. Shingled roofs are the easiest to work on for safety reasons, because tiles pose a threat of slipping as you move around with the equipment. I am suggesting you to go out and change the material of your roof to install the panels; all I am saying is to be very cautions with your footwork on tiles.

If any repairs need to be made to the roof, especially in the area where the panels are going to be placed, you will have to make the repairs before you start the solar panel installation. Do not use your panels as a quick fix to cover up a leaky roof that is false economy. After doing all that work on the panels and the solar cells, it would be a waste to screw it up by not fixing the roof beforehand.

When it comes to putting the system in place, make sure it is in an area where the sun shines and not hidden by shady spots from big trees with branches full of leaves, or tall buildings covering the solar panel system. A solar panel needs direct sunlight in order to get the ultimate results and greatest savings.

Where can one install a solar panel besides the home’s roof?

Besides roof tops, panels can be installed on buildings or they can stand alone on the ground. When installing the apparatus, you must use proper mounts. The type of mount that you use depends on where the panel is being installed. Your panels can be either flat, standing at an angle or standing alone. You need to have at your disposal pole mounts, flush mounts and roof-ground mounts with flush mounts being universal mounts because you can use them to install your solar panel in different locations. When placing the panel on your roof, remember to make sure that the device is secured with stainless steal leg bolts, which is attached to the rafters of your roof.

Now that your panel is in place, enjoy your solar energy and the savings that you are going to receive. After you have built it and installed it, the savings will something to look forward to.

Strapping a Ceiling

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

Prior to hanging sheetrock to ceiling joists it is important that strapping first be installed.

Strapping helps prevent cracks from showing up later in your home’s ceiling, as well as provides more surface area for securing the sheetrock to the ceiling.

Strapping typically consists of 1″x 3″ boards that are nailed perpendicular to the ceiling joists. Strapping can be purchased at any home improvement center as individual sticks or in bundles of 10, and comes in lengths from 8 to 16 feet.

Strapping should be applied every 16 inches on center perpendicular to, and across, the ceiling joists. Care should be made in installing the strapping such that two pieces of abutting sheetrock each have access to approximately 1.5″ of surface area of the strapping material. For example, the centerline of the 3rd row of strapping from a wall should be at 48 inches (the width of a piece of sheetrock). Not the edge of the strapping!

The installation of strapping is straight forward in concept, however significant care should be given to ensure that it is securely nailed and runs straight. Otherwise the sheetrocking effort may not go smoothly or be installed properly.

On pitched ceilings, it may help to use a chalk line and level to ensure straight lines. Also, the use of a Nail Gun is very helpful in this task, as nailing over one’s head can quickly become tiring. Not to mention, the job goes much faster.
